Laura Martin joined Harris Shelton Hanover Walsh in 2008 as an associate attorney in the Downtown office and became a member in 2016. Mrs. Martin concentrates her practice in commercial and civil litigation, and employment law. Prior to joining the firm, she served as the judicial clerk to Chancellor Arnold B. Goldin of the Chancery Court for the Thirtieth Judicial District, Shelby County, Tennessee.
Mrs. Martin has represented individuals and businesses in civil liability matters, including commercial litigation, premises liability defense, personal injury defense, health care liability and medical malpractice defense. She has handled complex business litigation involving contract disputes, business torts and claims on behalf of creditors. Mrs. Martin also has experience handling contested matters on behalf of employers and employees, which includes work on matters such as trade secret claims and disputes regarding covenants not to compete, employee contracts generally and defending claims brought under Title VII and the Tennessee Human Rights Act.
Mrs. Martin has litigated matters in both the state and federal courts of Tennessee, including trial and appellate work. She is admitted to practice in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Tennessee.
Prior to her legal career, Ms. Martin worked in the health care industry. Outside of the office, she spends time with her husband, Craig, reading and traveling.
