Jack Shelton focuses his practice on international trade, logistics, and maritime law. After earning a Juris Doctorate and graduating cum laude from The University of Tennessee College of Law, Mr. Shelton began his legal career as Manager of Claims and Contracts at the headquarters of BBC Chartering & Logistic GmbH & Co. KG, in Leer, Germany. BBC operates one of the world’s largest fleets of break bulk vessels from approximately 30 offices in 24 countries.
After working for BBC, Mr. Shelton attended Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana, where he earned a Master of Laws in maritime law with distinction. During and after his LL.M. studies, he continued to represent ocean carriers and maritime companies in both transactional and litigation matters at Galloway, Johnson, Tompkins, Burr and Smith in New Orleans. His work there included establishing complex joint ventures among international clients, reflagging commercial vessels, and obtaining facility clearance with the U.S. Department of Defense.
In September 2013, Mr. Shelton moved to Memphis and joined Harris Shelton, where he continues his practice of international trade, logistics, and maritime law.
Mr. Shelton has lived in France, Germany, Japan, and Thailand and has traveled extensively for both work and pleasure. He is adept at understanding the special needs of clients from various backgrounds, and he is available to his clients around the clock.
