Benjamin West practice includes a broad array of litigation, regulatory, and compliance functions across a wide scope of industries and clients. His clients range from individuals and small, independent businesses to some of the largest Fortune 500 companies in the world. These industries have included health care, oil and gas services, petrochemical, financial, information and technology, construction, property management, and waste management, among others.
His work experience includes private practice at firms in Mississippi, Tennessee and Texas, in-house counsel at a regional health care organization as well as a global oil and gas services provider , and as a judicial intern and research assistant for a U.S. District Court Judge – the Honorable Michael P. Mills for the Northern District of Mississippi.
These opportunities have provided him with wide ranging experience in business and commercial litigation, energy litigation, collection and replevin litigation, toxic tort and product liability, health safety and environmental support, insurance defense, criminal law, and regulatory compliance involving an array of state and federal administrative agencies, from the perspective of both the private practitioner and in-house counsel/corporate client. In addition, his areas of expertise include insurance matters, contract and indemnity analysis and drafting, mediations, depositions, internal investigations and administrative agency proceedings.
.Mr. West’s clients value his business judgment, professionalism, communication skills, crisis and project management, legal expertise, and cost effective strategies to achieve business resolutions through both alternative dispute resolution and litigation.
Mr. West received both his bachelor’s degree and Juris Doctorate at the University of Mississippi and practiced in Oxford, MS at Holcomb Dunbar Watts Masters & Golman, P.A., for three years before relocating his practice to Houston, Texas, where he worked for two of the most prestigious global law firms in the world – Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP and Reed Smith LLP. After over 4 years practicing in Houston, he returned to Oxford in January 2017 to join Harris Shelton. Mr. West is originally from Memphis, and is licensed to practice in Mississippi, Tennessee, and Texas.
