James Maclin focuses his practice on government relations, zoning, economic development, and commercial real estate transactions, including leasing, financing, and incentive programs. Before entering the legal profession, James spent over 30 years structuring, negotiating, and delivering complex real-estate projects across multiple asset classes, frequently working with municipalities, lenders, investors, and public agencies. As a result, he approaches legal matters with a deep understanding of how projects are financed, approved, and executed in the real world — and how legal strategy can either advance or hinder those outcomes.

His approach is grounded in preparation, perspective, and partnership – offering clients practical, results-oriented counsel that advances both their business goals and community impact. Before joining Harris Shelton, James served as a real estate law clerk, gaining direct experience in complex commercial and industrial transactions.

Outside of his legal practice, James enjoys weightlifting, fitness, and lifelong learning – values that mirror his dedication to discipline, personal growth, and service.
