Robert Alvarez, whose focus areas of practice include estate planning, business and corporate planning, tax and health law, became counsel at Harris Shelton in 2022. Robert brings more than forty years practice experience, being admitted to the bars of Mississippi in 1978, Tennessee in 1980, and the U.S. Tax Courts in 1985.
Robert is particularly experienced in estate planning, with an emphasis on structuring complex and large estates, drafting trusts, creating family limited partnerships and private foundations, and navigating issues like durable powers of attorney and living wills. He also represents clients in business transactions such as M&A, equity and debt financing, corporate and LLC partnership formations, executive compensation, leasing transactions, and state and federal income tax issues. He also has significant experience handling health care law issues, including business formation, financing, and regulatory compliance issues, including joint ventures, management service organizations, physician groups and managed care organizations.
Additionally, Robert has represented clients in tax disputes with the Internal Revenue Service, including contesting tax assessments imposed by the agency and settlement of tax deficiencies.
A native Mississippean, he is a graduate of the University of Mississippi and its law school, and New York University’s School of Law. Outside the office, you can find Robert enjoying his cabin in Arkansas, trout fishing, golfing, and spending time with his wife of 39 years, three children, and two grandchildren.
